The book presents the results of an interdisciplinary study of the past, present and future of the Russian coal industry at a time when developed countries are actively promoting a climate policy agenda that includes, among other things, the complete abandonment of coal generation.

What could a coal phase-out in Russia look like? This event will discuss the Russian coal sector and prospective elements of a coal phase-out in the country. Building on findings from the project ‘The Russian Coal Sector: Challenges and Transition Opportunities’ convened by Climate Strategies, we will be debating Russia’s climate policies, including the coal sector and energy transitions.

On Monday, September 16th EUSP will host Timothy Nutter, American theatre director, to discuss how to talk about climate change in the theatre.

On November 29, 2018, the Research Center ENERPO of the European University at Saint-Petersburg will welcome the third International CLEAN ENERGY Forum. The Forum will give room to discussions on clean energy and climate change: risks, strategies and possibilities.

China has rapidly evolved energy and climate change policies to meet several goals of energy security, air pollution control, industrial development, and carbon emissions reduction. This has significant economic, social and environmental impacts domestically and internationally. This talk focuses on the CIS countries and Mongolia (and possibly Russia) to explore these impacts and to discuss further implications.
